  • Friend and I decided to bite the bullet and co-op through Watchmen today. Some neat stuff here and there, but god damn did it feel half done.

    - We beat it in under 3 hours. That includes three or four restarts from when we died.

    - Parts where the characters have to split up were terribly handled. There were a few times where you both got to fight shit and then meet back up in a reasonable time, but oftentimes there'd either be a large gap (due to number of enemies being fought, length of section or both) or one character would simply have to sit there and wait for the other to find a switch to open the door. Sometimes the switch would be right on the other side of the door (one time the character automatically stood up and flipped it after I slid under) and one time the characters split up (I'll take the roof, you take this door!) only to meet up less than 10 seconds later (through the door, up a flight of stairs, oh look! hi, friend!)

    - End boss fight is weirdly balanced. The flame one hit kills you, which really limits your options. Characters do too little damage to simply chip away the health of the boss through either normal attacks or by hurling enemies at him, so you're left with hanging out on the sides, building rage/charge, triggering the boss, one person fighting w/ rage or charge, triggering the boss, other person fighting w/ rage or charge, rinse, repeat.

    - If you're an achievement whore, you'll have to beat the game three times. Once as each character and once as co-op. Playing co-op doesn't unlock the achievement for either character.

    - Dug the storyline, what little there was to it.

Afterwards we played a bunch of Death Tank and had a hell of a fun time. Yea, the magic of Death Tank is totally in the local play.
