now most importantly, thank you very much everyone for the congrats. i couldnt possibly be more thrilled with how this turned out. i am still pretty much in shock for what this all means for life in general. it is crazy.
so i wrote up a thanks to the moderators for all the hard work they do that was fairly lengthy, but i think this one part of that will give you guys a good idea of where i am personally.
---
Why now?
To give you guys an idea of what really made this choice clear to me, a little while ago my wife's surprise 30th birthday party was being held up in Pennsylvania. This birthday had some pretty special meaning to her and I knew how elated she would be with the surprise. I was dying to tell her because of the stuff she was dealing with but I knew it would make the surprise that much sweeter.
Two days before flying out I had to call her family and cancel because of this job. My wife had her surprise birthday party without her husband because I had to stay home and work on my internet blog.
Why am I working these insane hours while life outside passes me by? Will growing my company bottom line really reward me more than time with family and loved ones? I was given a chance to change my life, so I did.

First, thanks for this website - I stumbled upon it in 2002 via a link to Blue's News and got hooked by the chatty immediately. Although I've mostly lurked, it really has given me an opportunity to join a fun community and meet some awesome people via shackmeets!
Second, I absolutely empathize with your decision. When I was a resident in NYC, I also was working crazy hours and getting little sleep. When I thought about what I wanted to do in life, when I ranked what was most important to me, I realized it was not my job, but my wife and family/friends! Therefore, I applied for a fellowship in allergy because life balance was higher on my priority list that making buckets of money doing something else.
You honestly deserve the best for creating something that enriched the lives of a huge group of people! This community definitely would not be possible without ya!
Maybe after the gamefly takeover, people will stop posting ridiculous medical advice threads.
