I've been running Vista for almost 2 years now and I've found it to be as good as or better than XP in just about every way. (Control Panel could do with a tidy-up but that isn't a big enough deal to make me hate the OS and it doesn't cancel out the other stuff that is improved over XP.) I switched to Vista when I built my new (now current) PC and I was very careful to buy new hardware which had Vista support. There were some ropey drivers from NVidia and NetGear for the first month or two but that was soon sorted out, and the same was true of XP and Win2K (if there were even drivers at all for Win2K for some hardware).
