The first time I watched a grenade bounce around in qtest. The first time I rocket-jumped in Quake. Staying up late for a Threewave QWCTF update and jumping into the servers to try the new maps. Eh, I could go on...
The first time I came across a base being fought over in Planetside -- with troops, tanks, fighters, bombers -- and it just struck me: "those are real human players doing all of that". WHOA. My excuse for being excited about that is that it was my first MMO. :-)
In Sands of Time, the nookie with Farah in the bath was... sweet, actually, it was really well done. When Farah died that was a bit of a shocker as well, and then then reveal at the end that you're actually telling the story to Farah after undoing history, and she doesn't know you -- that was cool, especially when you show that you know her "secret word". Come to think of it my favorite Sands of Time moments are strongly tied to the Prince/Farah characters and relationship, too bad they screwed that up with the sequels.
For something completely different: call me crazy, but the alien ship interior in Crysis gave me chills. Most people hate it I guess but for some reason I thought it had a strong sense of place. An odd, disturbing place. The zero gravity was the cherry on top.
Hell in Doom 3. Creepy. And hell in Painkiller. Creepier.
The Warthog run at the end of Halo, and the same thing at the end of Halo 3. Yee-haw! Two of the best alternatives to your standard Big End-Boss Fight that I can remember.
Being a high-level tanker in City of Heroes on trials and taskforces. Standing against a sea of villains and protecting your teammates. Maybe the best time was the first time I did the respec trial, because my team REALLY wanted to succeed. And judging from their crappy power selections they did really need a respec. :-) It was great to be able to put a team on your back, carry them to victory, and see how happy they were about the reward.
Sacking Caiger Mall with the Shack horde. :-)
