I'm looking to pull the trigger on a PC upgrade in the next month. My want list:
- A Quad Core Intel CPU
- An 8800-level card or better (GT, GTS, something)
- Second 500GB SATA hard drive (to dual boot Vista/XP on)
- New motherboard (obviously)
- $1,000 or less (~$800 would be awesome)
So my question is: what do I need to know? I.e., is there a particular CPU with a particular stepping that's awesome and I should go for? Is there something coming down the pike soon that I need to wait for? Is there anything I need to avoid?
I'm not looking to upgrade my RAM at the moment, but might shortly thereafter (I have 2GB of Corsair TwinX... somethingorother, circa 2005). I'd like to shimmy that hard drive in there (should be $100 of the price if I play it right). I have Vista already (thank you launch event).
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What's happening here is this: when you buy a retail copy of Vista Ultimate, you get two discs, a 32- and 64-bit disc. You get to install either. At the Heroes Happen Here event they gave you a copy for free but only a 32-bit disc. It's unclear as to whether or not you can use the key to install using 64-bit media if you could acquire a copy.
So this isn't some sort of licensing snafu, this is me getting a free copy and then trying to see if I can use it for something even better than what I was given, that's all.
