the system itself - Extremely well made solid piece of hardware. I can't hear it at all when its running which is a huge difference from my 360 which sounds like a helicopter taking off sometimes. I can tell this thing won't break. It did lock up on me one time though, when I was browsing the Shack on the web. The Web browser itself feels a bit slow... not sure why web browsing sucks on consoles so much, but it is way better then the Wii's web browser at least. I doubt I'll use it much anyway.
Online features - I didnt get to mess with any games online. I dont have any. But what sucks is since it doesnt come with a headset, I need to buy one, and chances are the majority of people won't have one either. Wish they included that standard.
Blu Ray Player - I watched I Am Legend for the first time. That movie was awesome. Picture quality was superb as was the sound quality. I watched the alternative ending afterwards and I thought the alt ending was laughably bad. So glad they went with the original one. Anyway, I love being able to go to Blockbuster and find a ton of movies to rent, where-as with HD-DVD there was only a handful.
XMB - At first I didnt like the menus very much. I was having a hard time figuring out the navigation. I thought it was pretty unintuitive. After spending some time with it over the weekend, its actually pretty damn sweet. The only thing I dont like is not being able to listen to MP3s while browsing the menus. You have to sit at the MP3 playing screen and watch visualizers, rather then allow you to play around with the system and listen to it. the Visualizations are much nicer then the 360s I think, although theres less visualizations to look at.It would also be nice to delete folders. For instance, when I browse music, my video and pics folders are there but don't need to be. It doesnt play as many of my videos as the 360 does, but its pretty damn close. Maybe like 2 or 3 didn't work. Sweet media server imo.
Demos - Again, I didn't get to buy any games with the system. The reason being is I spent $400 on the system itself, then had to buy optical audio cables and an HDMI cable. I still need to go and buy a headset most likely, and a RF adapter thing-a-majing so that my harmony remote will work with the PS3. There's only a handful of demos, and even less Arcade games. Compared to Xbox 360, its almost like the first month the 360 was released. I'm sure more are on the way but right now the 360's library destroys the Ps3s. But nevermind that for now - the games themselves...
Ratch and Clank - Holy shit this game is beautiful. It reminds me of Crash Bandicoot or an older Sonic game. Superb graphics. Very cool game. I should probably buy this one, but since there's no multiplayer its probably a rental
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - This game was incredibly awesome. Again, gorgeous graphics, rivaling anything I've seen on the 360. This game is right up my alley. Reminds me of good adventure games that I havent seen in a long time. Very tempted to buy this one too, but probably smarter to rent it. Fighting myself right now not to go buy this.
Heavenly Sword - God damn another extremely good looking game. Im not really into these combo hack/slash kind of games but it was really cool looking and reminded me of 300. Maybe a rental or borrow it from my friend
Stardust HD - Fun! Very Geometry Wars'ish. Easier then Geo Wars though. Might buy it.
Motorstorm - Silly off road game. People who like Burn Out would probably like this. Not really a great game but maybe fun with more people.
Gran Turismo HD demo - This game is really surprisingly meh. Nice graphics... although not as enough as I remember them being when I played it at E3 (Which gives me hope for the full game). No damage model, no rumble in my controller, and no other cars on the road to mess with make it seem really lacking. The menus and cars themselves all look great but the game severely lacks standard features found in every other car game from the past 5 years. Its been delayed so many times, I expected much more.
Maybe Im smoking something but I think the graphics are better on the PS3. It could be because the games I played were gorgeous, or because Im using HDMI on the PS3 and VGA on the 360. The system just feels like its more solid and has better graphics. (placebo effect maybe?). The way games load up and the way the system turns on - it just feels better for some reason.
Anyway,,, I think its a nice system. Im happy I bought it. However, I will continue to buy all my games for the 360 because playing online is what I like to do. I also enjoy achievements. I plan on only buying the PS3 exclusive games that I want. As it stands now, that might be Drake's Fortune. Probably end up getting Gran Turismo Prologue too in a few days since thats downloadable. MGS4 I guess too (never played any of them)
That being said, if you were to get the 360 or the PS3 only, and your main interest is games (especially playing with Shackers) I would definetly choose the 360. There's just so many more games at the moment. I've had mine since day one with no hardware failure too, so thats not really a worry for me.
But if you want a Blu Ray player, and you're not as hardcore of a gamer like I am, the PS3 would be great. If you can live on single player games, go for it. For me personally I like playing online with shackers. Keep in mind a lot of the games available I have already on the 360 so those weren't options for me either. I personally could not live with only a PS3 and need both due to the Blu Ray mainly.
This thread probably didn't help anyone I just realized - but again, if you're into online, go with the 360. If you don't care about online so much go with the PS3 I guess.
