I understand the developers wanting to add to and expand the Fallout universe, but I'm not sure they're doing it in the most effective ways. Personally, my expectation for a Fallout 3 before Bethesda got their hands on the license, was upgraded graphics, tweaked combat, new items, and a new overarching story; Something that might have tied in with the previous two in some way that was slightly less than superficial.
There's a clear intent on the part of Bethesda to make this game for those uninitiated to Fallout, and as a long time fan, I find it frustrating that they didn't simply make their own post apocalyptic game and let the remnants of the old Fallout devs (who are apparently still kicking around) buy up the license and make a go of it.
I'm expecting the game to be fun. I'll buy it, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it a great deal. However, at this point, I'm pretty sure it won't feel like a continuation of the originals that I loved.
