While i have a "general knowledge" on the GPU's since 98, having owned a tnt2m64 and personally researching and buying later generations, i would appreciate any input on the subject. Specifically, turning points [ like the amd ati takeover, ati cluster supercomputers, the nvidia 5xxx crash, the final fantasy movie and geforce3 claims ]. I would have about 10 minutes to lay it out, if i do it well mayhap a max of fifteen minutes. Any key things i should mention would be really helpful. I might know most of it, since i followed the gpu development closely but a rejuvination on the same would be of paramount value.

In the past, communication between shaders was extremely limited.
Now, you can pass vertices into a geometry shader, pass that information into a pixel shader, pass the output of that back into the vertex shader and into yet another pixel shader, etc.
The pipeline is now 100% customizable.
The hardware sound acceleration decision was due more to ass sound drivers being responsible for ~30% of BSOD's in XP.
