What was your biggest gaming suprise of 2007?
For me it was Overlord. I had never even heard of this game before a coworker was telling me how great it was and how much fun he was having with it. Came totally from out of nowhere. And yet it was probably one of the most fun games I played all year. Not that often that a game I've never even heard of ends up being fantastic
(Disclaimer: I still don't have The Witcher yet so maybe this post should've gone to that. Maybe next year...)

Between previous SMT games being a mix of interesting concepts that never went anywhere with gameplay that was both repetitive and overly difficult, and the mere mention of a school "sim" being a large part of the game, I was not expecting much.
What I got was easily one of the best RPGs on the PS2 with a lot of charm to it, and the rare occasion where the gameplay *outside* of combat was not only more fun, but a whole lot more in depth. It helped that they altered the combat system a bit to make it less punishing.
