The engine, yes, looks and feels outdated to some extent. It uses bloom tastefully, but you can see that the modelling and thing aren't up to par with some of today's games. If you are a Graphics > Gameplay gamer, please stop reading now and go play Halo or something. Another thing that I find occasionally obnoxious in the engine is some of the rubble on the ground isn't tangible and you can move 'inside' of it, as if it's not there. This doesn't really effect the gameplay, but sometimes you might think you have cover, and you don't. This is generally rocks or bricks that are laying on the ground. Nothing drastic like a blown-out car or barricade.
The game is primarily in 3rd person mode. Occasionally this is a pain for some seldom Close-Quarter-Battles you'll have to do. But if you back into the wall, and have your weapon 'equipped', you will have a crosshair. So taking out that batallion leader who is bunkered in the basement of a winery isn't too terrible of a task. Did I mention you can just toss a grenade at him? Or maybe light him up with a Panzerschreck. Nah, save the shreck for the tanks.
My favorite part of this game is that it FEELS like a sniper game. FINALLY. Before this, the closest thing I had was playing Ghost Recon missions alone with a single sniper. While this is awesome, I am also kind of a World War 2 buff, so the fact that I can be a sniper in this theater makes it all the more awesome for me.
Stalking snipers in this game can be challenging and rewarding. It definitley takes paitence. This isn't Quake 2 CTF, or even Rainbow Six for that matter. You are all alone in this game, and waiting is part of the game. Naturally, the Artificial Intelligence is only "so good", but I am halfway through playing this game on Intermediate and haven't had too many problems with taking advantage of the AI yet.
Trust me, I haven't had a satisfying moment in a game for a LONG time like the one I had last week where I played headgames with a sniper, perched high on a bridge. I ended up having to make him think I was somewhere else, and then I was able to put a round through his eye. When doing this, the adrenaline surges and the excitement peaks.
This game is so fun. It's definitley NOT for everyone, and is very much a niche` title, but this post is for those who will appreciate the game in the long run. And YES, there is Multiplay. My roommate and I have had a go or two about some levels in it. It's fun, but honestly, I prefer Singleplay over all.
