Finally finished the game at 19.2 hours and, man, it's so frustrating how close it is to being great. The weapon and level variety is terrific, but the levels themselves often lack focus and result in aimless wandering as you try to find where you should go next. There's a few visual cues (like colored smoke) at points, but it's inconsistent and there's multiple extremely large levels where it's easy to fall off of the critical path and wind up walking around lost.
The game is also buggy. At some point my saves got corrupted and I lost all of my cybernetic upgrades, so I wound up playing through the last quarter of the game almost entirely depowered. Thankfully I was able to get enough points by the end to unlock the lightweight perk again, but God damn, that was stressful. The bile launcher (this game's take on the alien hivehand from Half Life) just stopped working on my saves for no reason and I didn't feel like rolling back an hour or so to get it working. The game has a shit ton of weapons, so it just forced me to not be quite so cheesy with the auto ammo regen, auto aim alien weapon.
When the game is firing on all cylinders, it's fucking amazing. It's a shame the bugs are so prominent, so many levels are poorly focused, and the checkpoint system is absolutely sadistic. There's fun to be had for sure and I enjoyed most of my time with it, but it badly needs a major patch or two.
Oh, and Blade's magnum from SiN? So. Fucking. Good.

I'd be willing to tolerate the bugs again if they had manual saving. But God damn, checkpoints + bugs + save corruption really tested my patience at times. Worst part of it all was seeing all of the cool stuff the game did and knowing it was getting so savagely undermined by a undercooked initial release.
