My genre of choice is real time (pauseable) or turn based tactics, here are the contenders I found in my backlog:
Desperados 3
Marvel's Midnight Suns
Jagged Alliance 3
I looked at Close Combat: The Bloody First which seems interesting but larger scale than I want right now. I also considered Pathfinder: Kingmaker but I'm not in the mood for reading a ton of dialogue trees (this is also why I haven't played BG3). I've also got Wasteland 3 on the backlog.
Anyway, I played an hour of each of the 3 listed above and I think I'm going to stick with JA3 for now. Desperados' interface felt a bit janky and the deckbuilding mechanics in Midnight Suns just seem weird to me, I rarely seem to gel with card games.
Did I make the right choice, shack? Anyone here playing JA3, or Rimworld Anomaly?

and I am absolutely thrilled that there are new encounter types so I'm not fighting the same raids, mechanoids and infestations that I have gotten exhausted of dealing with over the past 1200 hours of gameplay. but it does feel a little more natural after the patch that those things are mixed in with the anomaly content.
