Electronic Arts and BioWare have announced Mass Effect Andromeda will be releasing in early 2017.

In an update published on Mass Effect’s official website, BioWare general manager Aaryn Flynn reveals while the studio feels it’s taking the game in the right direction, it needs the right amount of time to ensure it delivers everything it’s planning to include in the upcoming RPG. “Because of that, Mass Effect: Andromeda will now ship in early 2017,” Flynn writes.

In addition to the new release date, today’s update reveals players can experience more freedom in Mass Effect Andromeda, will feature new uncharted worlds, and promises to offer the “next great Mass Effect experience.” BioWare plans on doing that by making it the first game in the series built on the Frostbite engine, while also delivering visuals, story, and gameplay that haven’t previously been done in the franchise’s history.

Mass Effect Andromeda is now scheduled to release in early 2017 on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

So probably dropping in March so they can get it out before the end of the fiscal year. I was hoping to have it this fall but I can wait. I just hope the early talk about making the combat more like DA:I was inaccurate.

Yeah, I know. I don't want to have that super zoomed out third person action. The shooting in ME2/3 was pretty damn near perfect IMHO.

Sweet. Will be a day 1 for me.

Also, it sounds dumb, but I am stoked for the setting to be Andromeda. Has a movie or game ever done that? Lots of fictitious or unsaid galaxy settings, but I can't think of one that was specifically in Andromeda and for-sure not in our own galaxy.

Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda would like a word.

Seeing a new galaxy with a ton of new aliens will be pretty sweet. Also, I assume the lead character will be cast in the role of outsider. You can't rely on reputation and title to get you through. Those races in Amdromeda give no fucks about humans.

While not in the Andromeda galaxy, Stargate Atlantis was primarily set in the Pegasus galaxy which is a dwarf companion galaxy to the Andromeda galaxy.

Only ever a rumor. A remastered ME trilogy would be awesome. That fucking texture pop in ME1 drives me insane.

They've only ever said that they weren't doing it, not necessarily that they wouldn't do it.
