Pokemon Shuffle Mobile chooses iOS today

After hitting 3DS earlier this year, Pokemon Shuffle has arrived at what arguably should have been its first home: iOS.

Earlier this year, Nintendo released Pokemon Shuffle on the 3DS eShop, continuing the publisher's foray into free-to-play gaming. Unfortunately, it felt like the worst elements of the trend had seeped in with its rampant timegating and emphasis on microtransactions. Given that it felt so much like a game one would find on a phone, it's only appropriate that a mobile port has now been released.

Pokemon Shuffle Mobile is the same Match-3 effort that was released on 3DS earlier this year. Players must match three different Pokemon heads to work towards catching whatever Pokemon is on-screen. Combos deal more damage, as do the favorable matchups that have become a hallmark of the Pokemon games. Available matches vary depending on what team of Pokemon is sent into battle.

Microtransaction issues aside, the quickened pace of Pokemon Shuffle never felt quite right on 3DS, but feels ideal for a quick hit on a mobile platform. Pokemon Shuffle Mobile is currently available for free on the App Store. An Android version is coming soon.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
