Gamescom 2015: Overwatch rocks out with Lucio

As expected, Blizzard came to Gamescom 2015 with a new announcement relating to Overwatch. That announcement is a new Brazilian freedom fighter named Lucio.

The Blizzard parade of reveals continued during its private Gamescom 2015 media briefing, as the publisher moved on to Overwatch. In addition to showing off a couple of new maps, Blizzard also revealed a whole new hero set to join the growing roster of mercenaries. It's a Brazilian skater with the power of music named Lucio.

Lucio and his love of music were originally teased last week through this bizarre Battle.net post that featured some Soundcloud music. Lucio is fleet of foot and moves to the rhythm, but unlike Tracer, he acts in more of a support role. He also packs quite a punch with his sonic gun, which he can set to either burst fire or to deploy a huge blast that knocks enemies backwards. Lucio's Ultimate is called Sound Barrier and plays on his love for music by placing his sonic gun on the ground and creating a massive healing field.

On top of Lucio's reveal, Overwatch is also slated to get a couple of new stages. That includes the previously-teased African city of Numbani, as well as the Russian facility known as Volskaya Industries.

What has yet to be revealed, however, is a beta date. Still scheduled to deploy this fall, Blizzard has remained mum on any beta period. In the meantime, sign-ups are still open.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
