This morning, Nintendo offered a glimpse into the lush planet of Mira, as part of a special Nintendo Direct dedicated to Xenoblade Chronicles X. Nintendo's Bill Trinen offered up an eight-minute overview of the game, calling it an adventure on the scale of The Legend of Zelda or Metroid.

The Xenoblade Chronicles X story takes place amidst the fall of humanity, with the remaining members of the human race fleeing the now-destroyed Earth. It's been two months since the humans have landed on Mira and formed New Los Angeles, with secret organization B.L.A.D.E. offering up quests and misions. Mira is a dangerous place, filled with massive monsters. Players will explore the continents of the plantlike Primordia, the water-filled Noctilum, the desert land of Oblivia, the rocky land of Sylvalum, and the lava-filled continent of Cauldros.

The full clip is available to view below. Xenoblade Chronicles X is set to hit Wii U later this year.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
