Shack Reels: Top 10 games to play on last-gen consoles

While many have moved on to the next-gen consoles, there are still games that are worth experiencing on your Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Greg Burke lines up the games that must be played before moving forward.

While the trend for franchises like Borderlands, Metro, and Halo has been to release updated HD versions of their previous installments on the newer, shinier next-generation consoles, that's not to say it's time to toss out your old consoles. Following up on a conversation from a previous Chattycast, Greg Burke is taking a trip into the past and looking at the best games that are still worth keeping your Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 around for.

Check out the full list of games that should be experienced on your last-gen console below.

      Nice, good list.

      Though I can't believe RDR was just an honorable mention

      Nothing there should be missed, but Galaxy 2 should've been in Galaxy 1's place, and Skyrim should be replaced with RDR IMO. Skyrim is so much better on PC where it's still very much current, that it doesn't really belong on a previous-gen list as far as I'm concerned.

      But that list of honorable mentions certainly highlights what a great console generation that really was.

      My only quibble is a chunk of this list is also available on PC, which sort of negates the concept of keeping your old consoles lying around.

        Nearly every ps4 and xbox games are also on PC, If I had to choose games that weren't on PC there would be not much to choose from

          There were tons of great console exclusive titles last gen, especially since you include the Wii - certainly enough to make a list of 10. I can think of 10 right off the top of my not-awake head.

          But like I said, it's a quibble.

        Problem with that is it takes months to put something together with that much data. Time we don't really have, remember how much time the top 100 PCs games took? I plan on doing a top ten a week. And for this if I held it to exclusives, pickings would be very slim...

      Good list. However, anyone who picks Fallout 3 over Fallout: New Vegas is disgusting. Shameful stuff.

        I felt the core gameplay was the same, they'd did improve allot but if someone had never played a fallout game before I would still recommend fallout 3 first? Then new Vegas.

          Also good job choosing the best game in all of those series. I was worried you'd pick Arkham City instead of Asylum or something silly like that.

      Because I wanted to capture it for my own curiosity:

      10 COD 4: Modern Warfare

      9 Rock Band
      8 Portal
      7 Dragon Age: Origins
      6 Fallout
      5 Batman Arkham Asylum
      4 Super Mario Galaxy
      3 Mass Effect 2
      2 Bioshock
      1 Skyrim

      Honorable Mentions:
      * Red Dead Redemption
      * Gears of War (one of them... lol)
      * Uncharted 2
      * Super Smash Bros. Brawl
      * Assassin's Creed 2
      * Bioshock Infinite
      * Dark Souls

      Interesting list. I'm such a nerd for this kind of thing that I'd be able to list 10 for each platform (well, maybe not the Wii).

      I definitely would have put Batman and Red Dead Redemption as the top two slots on my personal list, and there are a bunch of games I'd add as 11-20:

      Crackdown, Ratchet and Clank, Infamous 2, Wii Sports, Shadow Complex, Burnout Paradise and a bunch of other things ... I need to get back to work. lol

      Agreed with #1. Easily deserved! It cracks me up that I have over 500 hours in it and I'm doing a fresh install and new mods, how come I can't get enough of this game!?

      I was with you until Skyrim was #1 and none of the Souls games even made the list. I'd also put Last of Us on there over one of those games.
