Nvidia Maxwell tech re-creates moon landing video

A new behind-the-scenes video issued by Nvidia shows how the company's new Maxwell GPU and VXGI tech was able to re-create the 1969 lunar landing.

At the end of last night's Nvidia GAME24 keynote, company co-founder and CEO Jen-Hsun Huang revealed perhaps the new Maxwell GPU's most impressive feat. Taking images from the 1969 moon landing, Maxwell and its voxel global illumination (VXGI) feature was able to capably re-create the full video in real-time.

Nvidia was able to closely simulate lighting based on lunar surfaces, sun and star positions, and other light sources using this technology. Of course, it was a painstaking process and Nvidia is now explaning it with a new behind-the-scenes video.

The idea of using their GeForce GTX tech to debunk lunar conspiracy theories should give an indicator of how powerful the new processors are and should also offer an idea of what the gaming applications could potentially be. Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

What a Huge waste of time just to get attention.
And that they don't tell you how many card they used to render that is not a good sign.

It's a cool demo and not a waste of time since it's an interesting study in lighting.

        The demo uses ONE card.

Your favorite hobby is a waste of time, by the way.

Um, they had that one young dude put together a scene in unreal 4 as a demo and came up with a better concept for content than the usual hokey stuff.

Didn't cost much or take that much time.
