The NHL is getting ready to take the ice for a new season and while there are the standard console games at the forefront, 2K Games is looking to go a step beyond that for its NHL franchise. The publisher announced today that it would release NHL 2K for iOS and Android, bringing its hockey franchise to mobile devices for the first time.

NHL 2K looks to bring the full hockey experience to mobile devices, offering a full My Career mode, the NHL Winter Classic, Free Skate mode, Shootout mode, a three-on-three Mini-Rink mode, and multiplayer shootouts. The game will also feature live roster updates, NHL GameCenter integration, and controller compatibility.

NHL 2K is expected to release on the App Store, Google Play Store, and Amazon Appstore later this fall for $7.99.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
