With the League of Legends World Championships coming up, Riot is deploying a massive patch.

Riot Games has a large laundry list of changes in store for their MOBA giant League of Legends. The game's 4.13 patch will be one of the final patches before the upcoming League of Legends World Championships in September, so Riot is making sure it address a wide array of balance tweaks and changes, headlined by a change for support character Sona and assassin characters.

Sona will receive some notable buffs, with many ofher abilities receiving notable boosts to give her a greater sense of versatility.

"Sona's gameplay now revolves more around moments of power," explains Sona's update page. "Instead of hanging back and winning a war of attrition during laning, Sona's now got the kit to power up her allies and save their lives when a fight turns against them. Auras are smaller and more visible now, so getting the most of them requires great positional awareness for Sona and coordination with her allies. This allows us to reward great play with much more impact for each of her songs. You'll be able to make plays as Sona, earn your team kills and save lives with clutch ability casts and smart positioning. At the same time, the enemy team has larger windows to fight back in thanks to her longer cooldowns, adding in clarity and counterplay to Sona's kit."

Mages, assassins, and marksmen will also get some lower-end buffs, but the purpose of the patch is mainly to issue fixes across the board. For the full list of changes, check out the latest patch notes and watch the video below.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Meanwhile, the client and game are both still insanely bugged. Plus, the servers have been shitting the bed for days this week.

I don't want to dislike this game; I've been playing it since season 1. But it has been a decline in quality for years.

How do I get started in this game? Never tried any of them but I am curious about the genre.

Do I even try LoL or give something better a try? Which is better?

      LoL? Dota? HotS Alpha?

Advise me shack, I want to get into it but I dont want to learn LoL and found out HotS or DotA is better or vice versa with one of the others.

      No clue on this one.

Don't ask which is better. Each game is great, but some douches like to come in and scream and fight for their platform of choice. Both the big guys are pretty awesome. And free. I know nothin about HOTS.

Play with friends. Or shackers. Playing by yourself is going to suck, you need people to play with to ease you into the buttfucking you're gonna get.

I've tried both, but i play league because my friends played league. League is considered a little easier, a little more streamlined. They're both pretty deep down the 'moba' gameplay hole. You're gonna have to learn how to 'farm' and 'buy items' and 'last hit' and all that shit.

Dota 2 is more true to the original mod. Its also a little prettier imo. League is no slouch, but Valve really knows WTF is up.

If you wanna play now and you dont have friends, download league, play the tutorial, and then play by yourself against bots till you get a feel for whats going on. Then hit up http://www.mobafire.com/ and learn more about whichever character looks cool to you.

I will note that League ran A LOT better on a shitty CPU/Graphics Card than Dota2 did, but that was in D2's beta.

I would love to find some shackers to play LoL with. I solo queue it, ranked 13 or so. Still much to learn but I try to read up and better myself.

you might find it easier to play HotS and then try out LoL. DOTA is probably the next step in complexity - I enjoy the variation in LoL a bit more but that's just me.

If you have any friends who play a MOBA, play whichever one they play and play it with them. These type of games are a lot more fun with at least one friend in the game with you.
