Whether you're new to Diablo altogether or just curious about how it plays on a controller, Blizzard yesterday released a Diablo III demo for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 following its console launch last week. Like the PC demo, it offers a chunk of the first act, up to the Skeleton King boss battle.

The 1.28GB Xbox 360 demo is over here, initially exclusive to Xbox Live Gold members, while the PS3 demo is this-a-way.

Blizzard notes that the demo does support online co-op for parties, but matchmaking is disabled. Characters are capped at level 9, and you can carry over them into the full game.

Our Diablo newbie Steve enjoyed the experience playing on console; what do you make of it?

Fantastic game on PS3 and I'm just about to finish Nightmare difficulty. Seriously addictive stuff right here.

Yep. Yesterday I got 3 legendaries in a span of about 20 minutes, two of which were significant upgrades. The drop rates are just so much more fun in the console version, it's crazy. I get at least a few legendaries each day and they're almost all useful to my class.

Playing with randoms online has also been pretty fun. I rolled through most of NM act 1 with a Demon Hunter helping me. I had a two-socket Chaingmail legendary drop that was only a minor upgrade for me, so I dropped it for him to use. Then he dropped a socketed Stolen Ring for me! This is what Diablo trading should be like. Not some fucking auction house.

PC version needs those loot updates. Until then it is the poor cousin.

I haven't tried it yet but after playing XBLA Torchlight I know I absolutely prefer direct control in games like this. It's so nice to kick back on the couch and play that way.

I'm just waiting to get this for PS4. Has Blizzard said yet when they'll be releasing that version? Will it be ready for launch?

It was originally announced for launch but delayed. Early 2014 would be my guess.

I got it from GameFly and I just sent it back. It was fun, but boring at the same time. Its the first time I have encountered both feelings while playing a game. I think the main problem for me was combat basically divulged to holding down X

And a 48 hour one in Halo 3. Think I'll use that one for this.

Is it just me or does loot rarely drop in the demo? I think I looted a total of 15 items from level 1-9. That probably include the total potions I got. I guess it make sense they don't want the console people dealing with the constant trash loot pinata and most of its only purpose was to vendor for gold, to use in AH and seeing as there is no AH gold has less of a purpose.

However, something about playing a Diablo game without loot dropping 24/7 feels horribly wrong.

Loved the game on PC, and actually love it more on consoles. Played the demo with my teenage son and really enjoyed working together. Now we'll just have to see who can level up faster, what he doesn't know is I am using Diablo 3 Allstars Guide I found at http://www.mmo-strategy-guides.com/diablo-3-guides.html. He's going down.
