Ouya is starting up a $1 million pool of funds to go towards promising Kickstarter projects for its console. The "Free the Games Fund" will award between $50,000 and $250,000 towards potential Ouya game that launch their Kickstarter in the coming year. Eligible games will need to reach their funding goal of at least $50,000, and commit to a six month Ouya exclusivity window.
The official site (via Polygon) explains that Ouya will match the total funds raised in crowdfunding, up to $250,000. The funding is divided into three periods: 25% when the campaign ends, 50% when the game launches, and the remaining 25% once the six-month exclusivity ends. Obviously, once the $1 million mark is tapped, the funds run out. Whichever raises the most by the end date in 2014 will also get an additional $100,000 on top of those funds.
