Nintendo TVii announced, brings on-demand video to Wii U

TV, movies, and sports are all coming to Wii U through the awkwardly-named Nintendo TVii service. On-demand partners include Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Amazon Instant Video. You'll also be able to connect the system to Tivo DVR services, or even watch live television. Essentially, it becomes an interactive TV guide that helps you find programming across every available content provider.

The TVii service will also include internet connectivity, so that you can tweet about programs or find other fans of the same show. For example, you'll be able to find other Miis that are fans of Modern Family. We also spotted access to IMDb and Wikipedia, directly from the TVii app. While watching the program, you'll also be able to access a timeline of events, so if you tune in late to a show, you'll still be able to catch up. You'll also see fan reactions appear live through the timeline.

A look at TVii

While we'll need a deep dive to see all of TVii's features, our first look at the service was incredibly impressive, one-upping Microsoft's Bing services on Xbox by adding live TV. Connectivity with DVR and live TV was especially impressive. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime pointed out that TVii will be included free for Wii U, and won't have any monthly fees.
