The enhanced re-release of Doom 3 is coming just in time for Halloween, publisher Bethesda Softworks has announced. The "BFG Edition" of id's classic FPS will be available on October 16 on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. The console versions will retail for $40, while the PC version will be $30.

BFG adds Doom 3, Resurrection of Evil, and "The Lost Mission"--all optimized in 3D, 5.1 surround sound, achievements, improved rendering and lighting, and a new checkpoint save system. There's also an armor-mounted flashlight, "allowing players to illuminate dark corners and blast enemies at the same time."

The BFG Edition also includes the original Doom and Doom 2, making it the "definitive collection" for the series. Perhaps after this release, id will be a bit more forthcoming about Doom 4.

Please Support OCCOLUS RIFT when it hits kickstarter, you may be able to get these custom HMD kits for about 500$

Strongly considered it, I guess they pushed the kickstarter back another 2 weeks because of big new developments from big developers(?!?!)

I hope it's VALVE (as suggested by some users of MTBS3D)

Valve would make sense. They pimped the Razer Hydra, which GabeN crossed paths with again via the swordfighting game. Abrash is also working on 'wearable' stuff at Valve, with the Carmack connection. It seems silly that Zenimax wouldn't want a piece of the action.

Before, he wanted it to run for 60 days so he could get an end date that coincided with QuakeCon, where they'd have demo units set up. I presume a 'big name company' could help by guaranteeing an initial purchase of the components before all the kickstarter orders come in?

What's your interest in the kit itself, user level? coding?

I really hope it does, those kits look awesome.

"and a new checkpoint save system." I'm sorry, but I should be excited about this why? Something happen to F5 in the console port to PC transistion?

no one said you should be excited about it. And no one says you cant use F5. Is auto saving really worth complaining about?

Im sorry, can you point out anywhere in this article or my post where it says autosave?

checkpoint save systems generally function by autosaving when you reach the check point

In Doom3 the game would stutter on each autosave, this is a great new feature.

$30 for an 8 year old game?
Also, I wonder if they will fix the sound bug with the SMG. It wasn't mentioned in the article.

You mean the stuttering? Blame the sound designer (either Xian or Ed Lima) for creating a bad loop.

I'll see if I can port my "sound fix" pak file to the BFG edition, but that will only work if they don't lock out extra pak files from the single-player game (they might do that to protect cheevos).

There's no mention of higher-resolution textures or models. I don't think this will be any better graphically than what one can do with mods today, unfortunately.

      Time for Doom 4.

Nope, it's a damn shame, too. Unless they threw out all the original models, the way they had built the original game would have made it relatively easy to updated the models to a DX11 type thing. They would have just needed to re-do the low poly models, and re-renderbump the hi-poly models, but I guess this is more of a quick money grab to stop the bleeding until DOOM4

For $30 I can pay the kid next door to randomly hide around my house and jump out and scare me randomly during the day and it'll be just as entertaining as that game was.

Resurrection of Evil made by Nerve Software was the only good part of the game.
