Mass Effect 3 copies launched into space
by Andrew Yoon, Feb 17, 2012 8:00am PSTLast year, THQ received a lot of flak for launching promotional materials for Homefront into the San Franciscan skies. So, what will happen when EA launches copies of Mass Effect 3 into space?
Electronic Arts is going all-out marketing the finale of the Mass Effect trilogy. Their latest stunt will have the publisher launching copies of the game into space using weather balloons.
The copies should (theoretically) descend around the world in cities that would be ripe for Reaper invasion: New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Berlin, London and Paris. A GPS tracking device will be attached to each copy, so that fans will be able to try and retrieve the copies as they touch down. According to USA Today, each copy can be tracked via masseffect.com.
Mass Effect 3 will be available on March 6th. Unless you retrieve one of these early copies from space, that is.
