Mass Effect 3 single-player DLC fits within ME3 storyline
by Andrew Yoon, Jan 10, 2012 9:15am PSTMass Effect 3 may be the end of the trilogy, but don't expect BioWare to be done with Shepard's story when the game hits retail on March 6th. In addition to the promised multiplayer DLC, BioWare's Casey Hudson has confirmed that single-player DLC is also in the works.
"We're also planning some DLC on the single-player side, because it did really good in Mass Effect 2," Hudson explained. "The adventure-type DLC will happen in the time frame of Mass Effect 3, within your Mass Effect 3 storyline."
"There's a reason why we can add stories to what’s there," Hudson explained to Game Informer. "It's similar to how with Mass Effect 2, if you had a saved game from anywhere inside the game, you could go on to the DLC. We have a pretty neat concept for how it's going to work."
Mass Effect 2 featured a number of downloadable expansions that could be accessed any time during the campaign, including The Price of Revenge, Stolen Memory, and Overlord. However, Lair of the Shadow Broker could only be accessed after a certain point in the story, and Arrival was considered an epilogue to set up the events of Mass Effect 3.
Mass Effect 3 will be available on March 6th on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. The Collector's Edition will offer a bonus character and mission, which should give fans a taste of DLC to come.
