AMD promises driver to fix Rage issues by end of day [Update]
by Steve Watts, Oct 04, 2011 1:00pm PDT[Update] ATI/AMD have issued updated drivers for Rage, which you can download here.
[Original Story] Rage is suffering from its share of bugs on the PC, but help should be coming soon.
Ironically, players are being told to avoid updating their drivers. "Don't use the current Rage performance driver," an AMD employee said.
According to tweets from AMD Catalyst Creator Andrew D, old OGL files are to blame, and an updated driver is coming later today. "Don't use the current Rage performance driver - package includes very old OGL files, that's why you're seeing corruption etc," read one tweet. "New Rage driver with proper OGL component will be posted later today," said another tweet.
It sounds promising, and John Carmack's initial response to complaints was to update to the latest drivers. However, as previously reported, the Radeon update didn't seem to make significant progress toward fixing the bugs.
In a post on the Bethesda Blog, the company mostly echoes what we've heard elsewhere. Users shouldn't update AMD drivers yet, but a new version is coming soon. Those using Nvidia should update to the current beta driver.
