Gears of War 3 campaign DLC won't feature Delta squad
by Andrew Yoon, Sep 20, 2011 8:45am PDTGears of War 3 is out today, but that's not stopping Epic Games from talking up plans for its inevitable downloadable content. The game's "Season Pass" tells us to expect at least four expansions--one of which will be campaign DLC.
Cliff Bleszinski described the expansion, saying that Grand Theft Auto IV expansions "Lost and the Damned" and "Gay Tony" serve as inspirations for the add-ons. "You're not going to see Marcus or Dom or Cole in it. I believe that DLC should be unique and cool."
In our review, Xav mentions the finality of Delta squad's journey. Gears 3 "isn't relying on cheap narrative tricks to continue the franchise," he noted. Bleszinski confirms that this truly is the end for the characters. "You're not going to see a Gears 4 where Marcus is back, the Locust are back and the Queen is back," he told the Telegraph (via CVG). "Because if I were to come out at a press event and do that, everybody's eyes would roll into the back of their heads."
Of course, there will be more Gears--it's just a question of what form it will take. "As a studio we are in a very good position to be a slave to our success with the Gears franchise," Belszinski said. "Well, we could do first person, we could do an RTS we could do anything with it."
