The next instalment of Nadeo's delightful create-and-race series TrackMania will launch for PC on September 14, publisher Ubisoft has announced. The run-up to TrackMania2 Canyon's launch will be celebrated with a multiplayer beta.

Pre-orders will launch on August 17, alongside a multiplayer beta with guaranteed places for everyone who slaps their $24.99 down early.

TrackMania2 Canyon will only include the 'canyon' setting seen in previous games, with other tilesets arriving in later releases. It's the first block of Nadeo's ManiaPlanet, an online world built around user-created content. Down the line, ManiaPlanet will expand to include the FPS ShooterMania and RPG QuestMania.

Wish it were Stadium or Island, but this'll do.

He would prefer the setting to be "Stadium" or "Island" instead of "Canyon".

Sorry... my first reply was about how I don't understand why you'd want old environments in TM2.

Ahh, now that I get. Those were the environs I enjoyed most from TMUF and I'd love to seem them revamped for the sequel.

I own Trackmania United Forever and played the free version before buying but now there is no way I'm buying the new version. They just got ridiculously greedy. $25 and you get one set, everything after that from them is more $$$. Also it sounds like they are just recycling the same sets from the previous generation. WTF is going on here?!?

Ask them in the forum, there is a thread where they answer questions. I'd like to hear that answer.

It's the same setting, but the car is completely different. There's a number of enhancements including custom blocks and better modding APIs. While I wish it was $20, I think $25 is reasonable.

Can't wait, I hope they release more environments at a steady pace :)
