Soul Calibur V announced
by Steve Watts, May 11, 2011 2:50pm PDTHopping on-board the fighting game revival, Namco Bandai has officially announced that Soul Calibur V is in development for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Andriasang reports that the game was announced at the "Step Up Dubai 2011" event. The game takes place 17 years after Soul Calibur IV, and more details will be coming at E3 in June. It's aiming for a 2012 launch.
The company showed off a cinematic-only teaser trailer, which introduces the new main character, Patrocles. Namco Bandai also set up a countdown site in April, which is expected to be the official Soul Calibur V site once the countdown ends today at 10 am PST.

The combat is fluid and quite aesthetically pleasing, and the actual mechanics are intricate without being overwhelming. There's a lot more room for error and a lot more room for creativity with the lack of overly powerful combos and the like. I personally think games like Street Fighter put too much emphasis on the mechanics and the execution of those mechanics, a problem that Soul Calibur has never had (unless you were trying to do Ivy's ridiculous command throws).
The game is all about reading your opponent, which is exactly what a fighting game should be.
