Chrono Trigger rated by the ESRB for PS3, PSP

Chrono Trigger, the SNES classic and arguably one of the best games ever made, has been rated for the PS3 and PSP by the ESRB. Details are scant; however, safe money is on the game arriving on the PSN as a PSone Classic.

Chrono Trigger (also known as one of the best games ever made) has been rated by the ESRB for the PS3 and PSP, Joystiq discovered earlier today.

The SNES classic role-playing game has made its way to a number of formats--in North America--since its original 1995 release: Square nearly ruined it with load-times in the Final Fantasy Chronicles collection in 2001, while Crono and his allies ventured through time on the Nintendo DS in 2008.

The ESRB listing doesn't provide any detail on the game. We presume the listing points to players getting Chrono Trigger as part of the PlayStation Network's growing crop of "PSone Classic" titles.

If the classic game [with bonus FMV sequences added in subsequent re-releases] is coming to the PSN, it might also point to the game arriving on the North American 'Virtual Console.' Chrono Trigger is planned for an April 2011 release on the Japanese Virtual Console, according to Siliconera.

      niiiiice.

this is the best video game by the way. Just an FYI. It's the best. All video game making actually stopped that year because they made the best, and we're just living in the matrix.

      The best

Not playing FF3/6 is unforgivable. Please tell me you at least played Phantasy Star III, tho.

Relative term. I still thought it was a very good game, with a lot of replay value because of the decision tree in the game that affects what characters you get in the 2nd and 3rd chapters.

iOS is pretty well suited to FF games.

I can't stand the virtual controller scheme.

I have yet to use one that didn't make me want to chuck the whole device across the room.

Wrong game. That's FF3JP, originally released for the Famicom in Japan, finally ported to the US in a DS game a couple years ago, and now ported to the iPhone. It's not bad.

We're talking about FF3US/FF6JP, which is one of the best games of all time.

Best game ever made. I would be disappointed at not owning a PS3 if I didn't already own it for the DS.

It's probably gonna keep at least some of the load time issues. Still, any Chrono Trigger is better than no Chrono Trigger.

For some reason when they made the PS1 collection and added the anime cutscenes, it added load times to several areas. Some weren't bad, others were just retarded considering the nature of the game.

You mean added load times to the whole game. There loading just to into your party menu, it was horrific, couldn't play through the ps1 version because of it

Yeah, pretty much all of Square's SNES->PSX ports had serious issues in one area or another.

Thankfully, the DS version has all of the extra stuff from the PS1 version but, since its a chip, has the load times of the SNES version.

There's really no excuse for the load times in the PS1 version, CD or not. RAM wasn't a limitation in the slightest.

All of Square's SNES-PSX ports had that problem. FF4 probably had the worst load times (saving took FOREVER), but they were the most noticeable in Chrono Trigger's before-and-after battle loads, which ruined the novelty of not needing a separate "battle screen".

I doubt there will be load time issues since you're going to be playing it digitally on a ps3 or a PSP now.

Pretty sure that since the PS1 is just emulated, the load times aren't going to disappear. I would love for TOSE to prove me wrong.

Load times on other PS1 games I've bought on PS3 (silent hill 1) are next to nonexistant - or at least very much reduced.

If it's the PS1 version, it's not worth playing. It'll just sour an otherwise amazing experience with some god awful load times. The DS is the absolute best version to get. :(
