The Darkness 2 Announced for Fall
by Alice O'Connor, Feb 08, 2011 6:30am PSTThere's been talk of a sequel to supernatural shooter The Darkness for some time and now it's as official as official can be. Today, publisher 2K Games formally announced The Darkness II, slated for release this fall on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and, unlike the original, PC too.
The announcement promises "deep and twisted storytelling, "stylistic violence" and a new "hand-painted graphic noir" visual style, which you can see in the solitary screenshot above. And yes, you will still be able to hold two guns while swinging your evil tentacles, a feature which 2K calls "quad-wielding."
The game is set two years after The Darkness, continuing the tale of mafia hitman-turned-anti-hero Jackie Estacado as an attempt on his life brings the titular evil supernatural force back into his life. The story is penned by Paul Jenkins, who wrote the original The Darkness and has worked on the comic series the game's based upon, as well as inner turmoil-y comics including 'The Sentry' and Wolverine tale 'Origin.'
The original game's developer, Starbreeze, is not working on the sequel. Instead, it's being developed by Digital Extremes, the studio responsible for Dark Sector, BioShock 2's multiplayer and the PC edition of Homefront.
