Call of Duty: Black Ops Getting More Patches for PC, Consoles; Care Package Glitch in the Crosshairs

By Xav de Matos, Dec 06, 2010 2:20pm PST Call of Duty: Black Ops is getting a few more multiplayer-focused patches, according to the game's official forum. Patches for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 versions are all inbound to attack issues like a rabid pack of dogs after an eleven-man killstreak.

On the PC side, the notorious care package glitch is said to be disabled in the new wave of fixes. Using the glitch, players have been able to spawn an infinite number of care package, SAM turret, and sentry gun killstreak rewards--making the online experience understandably unbearable at times. Also on the menu is the correction of map specific clipping tricks players have been able to utilize to shoot through surfaces, improvements to spawning, and more.

On the Xbox 360 and PS3, the list of upcoming fixes is sizable, with upgrades to the spawn system, a render delay on player indicators that appear when controlling the Gunship, Valkyrie Rocket and Chopper Gunner, prevention of an exploit that allowed players to keep customized classes and killstreaks after prestige and more.

Console patches will go into "Phase 3" submissions today, meaning it might take a little while for them to be cleared for release. A time frame for the PC patch has not been revealed.

  • I'm apparently one of the lucky ones (I haven't had any issues other than 10 second freeze-ups early on that the patches seem to have cured)...and the game itself is a lot of fun (much better than MW2...which oddly enough I actually had more issues with...I remember it taking forever to get into a game waiting on fucking countdowns and then it turns out that I'm getting a shitty connect to that game so I quit and try again until I get into a game...and the core game of MW2 was just not my cup of tea).

There don't seem to really be an Hardcore Domination (lol) servers running for CoD4 anymore...which is the mode that I enjoy playing the most...and MW2 didn't support I can at least play that mode in BLOPS which is enough reason for me to play it. I love BC2, but they're different sorts of games that compliment each other.

That all having been said, Treyarch needs to fix the issues for other players...this is a very nice game and I'd like to see it getting fixed so more people can enjoy it. I do think it has a shot of actually getting the issues fixed...IW didn't really seem to care a lot about fixing problems with MW2 after release (this may be more because IW got gutted after release...but I also got the impression that they'd taken a "we can do no wrong" attitude)...but Treyarch seems to be commited to at least trying to fix the issues.
