Evening Reading: Putting the Oughts to Bed
by Garnett Lee, Dec 31, 2009 6:00pm PSTIf you'd told me last New Year's Eve that a year later I'd be writing the last Evening Reading of the decade on Shacknews I'd probably have looked at you dumbfounded. Sitting here doing it this evening I couldn't be more pleased with how things have worked out. Getting reacquainted with Shack has been great. We've got a great team, a great community, and fantastic support to carry us into 2010 and well beyond.
We've been posting our games to look forward to in 2010 today. I'll have mine coming tomorrow along with a collection of our resolutions for the New Year. Hope you'll take a moment to check them out and add to the conversation when time allows. Have a fun and safe New Year's Eve whatever your celebration plans.
I'll leave you with this great quote my friend Sterling tweeted earlier today: "The world isn't coming to an end. It's already tomorrow in Australia."

So, my girlfriend bought me this game tonight (not the GOTY edition, just the vanilla one) for the PS3.
I always freeze up with this kind of game, with all the choices you have. Can you really go hugely wrong? So far, i've got most of my stats in int and agility. With skills in small arms, repair, and lock picking (for now).
It looks like from the dialog that you can lose or gain karma. Should I try for a specific good/bad path? The only games i've played like this are KOTOR, planescape, and arcanum, though i suppose i've also played the first two fallouts.
All the choices just paralyze me. i'm afraid of making a bad choice and screwing my character up for good. How much does it affect the game if you do bad things (like killing butch at the beginning rather than helping his old lady), etc. Does it really screw you?
