BlizzCon Tickets on Sale May 16, Event to Be Streamed Online for First Time
The event will take place at its usual venue, the Anaheim Convention Center, on August 21 and 22. Tickets are priced at $125 apiece, and will be sold through the official BlizzCon website. Blizzard notes that those unable to secure tickets on May 16 will have a second shot, as another block of tickets will be released for sale on May 30. The company has made improvements to its Blizzard store interface, including a first-come, first-served queue system.
BlizzCon will again be broadcast on DirectTV, with customers able to tune in for the price of $40. However, fans will also be able to tune into a Pay Per View internet stream this year, for the same cost. Anyone who orders either broadcast will also receive this year's BlizzCon-exclusive World of Warcraft in-game item.

id Software has an annual successful convention for free every year. Blizzard is charging $125 to get into this thing and $40 just to WATCH it. This is on top of how they charge over 10 million people $15/month to play their game.
Maybe it's not so much that people are cheap as they are jealous that Blizzard can make so many moneyhats-
QuakeCon is not nowhere near the success of Blizzcon.
And if you pay $125 to go you don't have to pay an additional $40. This is for people who don't/can't fly to California and want to watch the tournaments. I would gladly pay $40 to watch the Starcraft/WoW/War3 tournaments and then I also get an additional WoW pet that I can sell on eBay for $300? Yes please.

Because it's so unnecessary? Sure, I *COULD* pay $40 to see a convention I'm not at...but why the fuck would I? What value does watching it have for me...certainly not even close to $40 worth of value, especially given that everything demoed, played, etc will show up online by the time the thing is over.

ok? So you are obviously not going to buy it but for the people who do want it, it's a fucking value and a half. You will make up all of your money and make a profit just buy selling the WoW pet. Blizzcon pets bring in big money.

Everyone is the "king and queen" of their own value. I'm merely explaining why I don't think it's worth $40 at all. The explanation that the pet might sell for that much or more makes a more compelling argument than wanting to see footage of other people having fun though.

The $40 could go a long way for those that really enjoy the experience. I went to Blizzcon 2006 and it was a blast.
Unrelated but if this year's blizzcon gave beta access to Diablo 3 it would more than justify the ticket price, flight charge, accommodations, and daily stops to in-and-out. Hell, I'd pay more than $300 alone for the chance to play Diablo 3 for more than a day. -

Possibly, but since the DirectTV cost is much lower than an actual ticket price, more people will be trying to do the same thing. Those people will probably just spend the $40 for the item.
