  • It's amazing that people are told all the information. In the last 3 days of October a game was released and pitted against 19 other games that mostly had been out for longer than 3 days and as much as the whole month of October. This game, released on 28th October sold 71,000 units.

The news from this is wow! Fallout straight in at No.1! Wow! Isn't Spore doing well!

Well the fact is. This information actually shows how BADLY PC gaming is doing, and I am surprised Shacknews of all people just doesn't get it - nor do any other site reporting on this article (Planet Fallout, for example!), nor any other PC gamer!

So let's look at this chart in the real-world way. Fallout 3 sells 71,000 units according to the above NPD PC chart. That means every other title below, however early in October they came out, sold less than 71,000 units. Now don't you think, with all the hype about how PC gaming is doing so well, that in ANY given month there would be a title that couldsell100,000?!

There is no way, in a thriving market, that a title only available for three days of the month, should be able to get to No.1!

Alternatively, on the console WEEKLY charts, Fallout 3 managed No.1 for one week only. It is now No.6 I believe. This is much more of an example of a thriving market!

No doubt, on November 1st we will get another article from Shacknews, pointing out that Fallout 3 is still No.1 in the PC charts. In fact, the PC market is so moribund that I would not be surprised if Fallout 3 is still No.1 in the PC chart in January 2009!

This chart is not a sign of a thriving hit title at No.1 heading a thriving chart. This is a game that sold only a few units (quite rightly as it had only been on the market for 3 days!) still being able to get to No.1 because no other title in the Top 20 could compete with even that low number!

Shacknews- you're brighter than most, why do you buy into this lie about PC gaming's strength?! I believe by ignoring it's weakness and the reason's for it we are only helping it disappear!
