Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 hits the PlayStation 3 on March 24.Per usual, owners of the Steam version will not need to manually download the patch, as Steam with automatically download and apply the update.
The update brings the following balance changes, bug fixes, and user interface enhancements to the PC version of the EA LA-developed alternate history RTS:
Dubbed the Ultimate Edition, the PS3 release of the real-time strategy game will feature five new maps over the previously released PC and Xbox 360 versions, and will pack a number of bonus videos, including a "Girls of Red Alert 3" featurette.
"The PS3 is a very powerful platform, and the extra time we have had in development has helped us create the ultimate console RTS experience, with better graphics, improved performance, a ton of extras and some nice exclusive perks that cannot be found on any other version," said EA LA development director David Seeholzer.
Bloopers, outtakes, behind the scenes, developer strategy videos, and new battleground maps will all make it onto the Blu-ray disc, in addition to a "Girls of RA3" featurette.
The Ultimate Edition will also include the game's soundtrack and a "Unit Profiles video encyclopedia," as pointed out by PS3fanboy.No word yet on a release date for the port.
Fallout 3, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, Dangerous High School Girls In Trouble!, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Tomb Raider: Underworld all received recognition from the WGA.
Only games scripted by writers that belong to the WGA were eligible to be nominated. And the WGA charges dues, so who knows how many games they really had to choose from. Still, High School Girls!
The RTS sequel sells for $49.99. Not jumping at that? Try the demo first. And don't forget that a PC-exclusive expansion was announced earlier today.
"We will have more information in the New Year," said EA on the subject in response to Eurogamer.
French gaming site Jeuxvideo reported yesterday that an expansion to Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 titled Uprising was in development at EA Los Angeles. While the Xbox 360 version of Red Alert 3 did not find a place on the console sales charts, the game debuted at #2 on the weekly PC sales chart behind Fallout 3, and was the tenth-best selling PC game in both October and November.
A PlayStation 3 version of the game, put on hold in June, was recently re-announced.
The latest patch for EA LA's alternate history RTS packs a number of bug fixes and tweaks, along with the ability to de-authorize past installations to get around its DRM.
Major v1.05 higlights:
The demo will feature tutorial training missions and two full levels from the game's Allied and Soviet campaigns. Also included will be the game's introductory cinematic sequence, no doubt a masterpiece of film-making.
Red Alert 3 is available now on PC and Xbox 360, and the PlayStation 3 edition was recently brought back from the dead and will arrive at some point in the future.
With the PC version on store shelves and the Xbox 360 release due November 11, producer David Silverman told VideoGamer that "there's definitely people working on a PS3 version and we'll be talking more about that later."
"If you're a PS3 owner and you don't own a PC and you don't have an Xbox 360...you can play Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3. Bide your time and you'll be very pleased," Silverman said.
He explained that the PS3 version was suspended to ensure that the overall product achieved "the level of quality that it must adhere to to be called a C&C game," adding that "we've hit that mark, we've shipped the game."
The produced teased that the team is looking at "some really cool things" for the PlayStation 3 version of Red Alert 3, such as "taking advantage of both the 1080p nature and the high-defness of Blu-ray."
"If we suspend or ban you from the forums, that does not affect your in-game account and certainly it does not impact your in-game account for other games," reads a new post. "I had a misunderstanding with regards to our new upcoming forums and website and never meant to infer that if we ban or suspend you on the forums, you would be banned in-game as well. This is not correct, my mistake, my bad."
Original Story: A forum moderator's threat that gamers could be banned from playing all of their EA-published games, such as Spore and C&C: Red Alert 3, for improper forum behavior was the result of a "misunderstanding," Electronic Arts tells Shacknews.
Explained Electronic Arts:
Posting in EA Forums is enabled by an EA Nucleus account -- but access to the forums and access to the games are separate. Players who have been banned from EA Forums are not automatically banned from online access to their other EA games. Players can be banned if they breach the Terms of Service or Code of Conduct in a forum, game or service. Each forum, game and service is managed independently by customer support representatives responsible for that specific forum, game or service.
A similar threat emerged earlier this year, after a Spore moderator threatened to ban users from the game if they discussed the title's controversial DRM on its official forums. EA quickly responded, explaining that post was made by an "over-zealous community volunteer" and was "absolutely not true or in-line with EA's moderation policy."
Original Story: Owners of Electronic Arts published titles such as Spore and Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 may end up banned from playing their games if they get banned from any EA-moderated forum, according to this post from moderator eaapoc:
Your forum account will be directly tied to your Master EA Account, so if we ban you on the forums, you would be banned from the game as well since the login process is the same. And you'd actually be banned from your other EA games as well since its all tied to your account. So if you have SPORE and Red Alert 3 and you get yourself banned on our forums or in-game, well, your SPORE account would be banned to. It's all one in the same, so I strongly reccommend people play nice and act mature.
Similar threats emerged earlier this year, when Spore forumites were threatened with bans for discussing the title's controversial DRM, though EA later stepped in to clarify that the threat stemmed from an "over-zealous community volunteer" and was "absolutely not true or in-line with EA's moderation policy."
"What if some moderator goes off on a power trip?" asked Shacker Pugnate, who tipped us off to the news. "Does he seriously have the right to block access to software you legally purchased?"
Faylor's Take: To reiterate my previous stance, I certainly sympathize with the plight of those that have been tasked with watching over a game's official forums. But I really can't believe that EA has allowed this to pop up once again.
Apart from scaring posters into submission and causing even more controversy, I can't think of one reason to even bring up the idea of removing a... Read more
