Chore Wars. I'm tricking my kids into doing house work by making them think it's part of an RPG. It works so surprisingly well. All 3 kids are running around the house mopping, sweeping, dusting, vacuuming all while thinking it's part of a quest. It's so awesome. They actually think they are having fun. The actual RPG part of it is pretty weak. The website is severely lacking in features but overall it's not terrible. I'd love to see what a talented Shacker web dude could do with this concept.

I found that from that Wired article that compared the Weight Watchers diet to an RPG (he's right).

johnathon wendel aka "Fatality" professional gamer was on CBC's radio program The Current this morning advocating making competitive gaming an Olympic Sport. He was up against the Dean of phys ed at the University of Toronto. Wendel didnt really present that strong a case imho as to why games should be an olympic sport as he kept dancing around the issue of the lack of physicality in gaming by saying professional gamers are in good physical shape. ....ok

the Dean brought up the point that darts, card games, chess, billiards etc are not olympic sports and all Fatality could come up with was that competitive gaming is more strategic. I cant see his point being taken seriously by olympic commitees who will base their decision on what they see. Quake at first glance doesnt seem remotely strategic at least to people unfamiliar with the game or gaming in general

he also took a shot at consoles by saying something to the effect that console games couldnt be a competitive/olympic sport but that the pc could due to their control systems

We've got a little Wednesday treat for our fellow shackers--us! :P

In the latest episode of Played, we kick off with discussion of Nintendo’s ban on designer Shigeru Miyamoto discussing his personal hobbies, then launch straight into what we’re playing.

Xbox Live Arcade is a big theme, with Chris and Mark playing Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 (and making unsolicited comparisons to Everyday Shooter) and Chris taking on Braid. Liz has been into Soul Calibur IV, but less into its absurd achievements.

Finally, Mark has returned to Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune again, and he finally finished The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess almost two years after its release.

I'm on a tapered schedule right now since my bone marrow transplant, and goddamn does this stuff suck. It feels like I've got restless leg syndrome all over my damn body. But I guess that's what the Ativan is for.

It seems to be used for a lot of different things.

Ignoring the common sense of how the F you neglect your kids for a game I am really missing how one can get addicted to this level. PvE you get locked in raids and not much reason to PvP that much once you get to a certain level. I mean if you have like 3-4 chars sure but I don't think I could find enough to do for 70-90 hours a week.

I am playing System Shock 2 coop again with a friend, and I want to be able to use my 360 controller. Something that maps one of the analog sticks to a mouse would probably be sufficient for this, since SS2 already accepts button binds from it. Anyone know of a good thirdparty app that can do this? Ideally something that does that and a whole lot more, I've been meaning to go find a good gamepad-keyboard/mouse mapping app.

Madden 09 Shack League informational thread.

I have started sending out invites to the Shack Reserved league.

Rules are set as follows

- All Pro Difficulty. I figured All Madden was too high and All Pro was too low
- 5 min quarters
- 32 max players
- 1 time play for each opponent
- injuries, fatigue, and random weather are on

Here is a list of teams and the shackers that have reserved them, please use look at this and pick a team that is not already taken. Sorry maulla pick someone else other than the packers.

TF2 tourney

Cult of Crit proposes NDI the following: the final shall be played highlander-mode, and captains shall be able to pick up to two players from the opposing team to join their own. Hirez is considering some future season 3 of the tourney to be highlander mode. This would serve as an exhibition match, and the teams would be declared co-champions of season 2.

I have proposed this to Jackhammer in private already, but I thought I'd make the formal offer here for everyone to see. I'd like to have some pure, unadulterated fun, and see how highlander goes over with players and spectators in a tourney setting. Players, what do you think?

You guys ever watch Locked Up Abroad on NationalGeographic HD?

Such a great, well done show. They take people who got locked up for whatever reason in some strange land, and then actors re-enact their story. From what I can tell, they actually go to whatever country and film it there, and it all looks realistic and great in HD.

Every episode has been done really well. Sometimes they got idiots who try to sneak something across the border, other times its some poor couple on vacation and a war breaks out.

Anyway, check it out if you have NatGeo HD. One of the only shows I watched all summer because there's nothing on.
