TF2's Pyro Getting Unlockable Weapons Next, Upcoming Character Trailer Is 'Meet the Sniper'
by Chris Faylor, Jun 03, 2008 8:25am PDTValve has revealed that the Pyro will be the next Team Fortress 2 class to receive class-specific achievements and unlockable weapons, with the Sniper being the next to be featured in a series of character-based trailers.
The company introduced the concept of unlockables earlier this year via a set of Medic-specific achievements and weapons, with players earning new equipment when as they completed 12, 24, and all of the 36 achievements. Valve plans to eventually grace the seven remaining classes with new armament in due time.
No details as to when the Pyro achievements and weapons will be available were provided to CVG, though Team Fortress 2 director Robin Walker previously told Shacknews that, "we're really excited about where TF2 will be going over the next year," suggesting that the studio may be hoping to release all of the updates within that time.
The free update is likely to hit the PC version first. Though Valve has said details on console DLC are due "pretty soon", the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions of the class-based multiplayer shooter have yet to receive any of the content updates released thus far.

right mouse click - long skinny stream of fire that shoots further and does less damage.
other unlockables include freeze/frost flame. it would slow the enemy movement for the same amount of time as the flame burns, and then you could also do the right mouse click for further shooting less damage attack.
game over, pyro is fun

On one hand, I'm really glad to see pyro get some love (my favorite class, followed by spy/scout/medic) but I'm worried that this will mean that pyros that aren't using the new unlockables will never get any love - in whatever form it should or should not take.
I guess it'll partly depend on whether the unlocks are variants on the same weapons or true alternatives, though.

Also it would kick ass to use to clear stickies.

Just let me shoot out some napalm that sticks to whatever it hits and burns for 10-15 seconds, burning anyone who comes through it (sticking to them). It doesn't even have to do a helluva lot of damage, just enough to slow down an advance for a sec so I have some survivability.

More Snipers to combat Pyros: iffy.
Zero Spies to combat Snipers due to proximity of Pyros: bad.
Not a good time to be Heavy, Scout, or Spy, methinks.
Hopefully there'll be a flamethrower with greater reach but zero crit capability, because that would be a very good tradeoff for most people.
And testing a different method of getting the unlockables would be nice. Or maybe linking them to fewer numbers of specific achievements, such as getting a certain number of kills with each weapon to unlock the alternate for that weapon.

Been taking a break from my 110+ hours of pyro and doing a lot more medic, soldier, scout and even spy; but when this comes out it'll be back to the good ol' days.
