Thom is truly a Shack icon. His continued commitment to the community as a whole, with projects like the *LOL* page and GameWith, is exemplary. He has been incredibly generous with his time and expertise to myself and countless other Shackers.

Thom constantly strives to make this place the best damn community on the internet and should be applauded for doing so.

This kind of game would slip through the cracks on the Shack on the slowest of news days, but during this hot period of game releases (hur hur hot period) it's bound to be invisible.

The newest expansion to the best fantasy MMORPG you're not playing is out today.

Everquest 2: Rise of Kunark.

As usual, it includes all the previous expansions, giving you a huge and rich world to explore.

No, there's no shack guild. Couldn't get everyone on at the same time.
No, I won't promise you you'll have fun, it seems to be a love or hate thing. I've been playing off and on for 3 years since launch and it can be a lot of fun both solo and in groups.

No I haven't picked it up yet. It's usually best to give it a week or two because the zones are so clogged on release.

As for new features, here's a short list:

New evil Race, the Sarnak, a race of genetically enhanced soldiers looking for revenge on the Iskar. http://everquest2.com/allraces.vm
The lost continent of Kunark returns!
Giant "super zones"
Level cap increased to 80
Saved "instances". This lets you and your group take your time with an instance if you can't all get back together at the same time.

And a lot more.

Nick wrote up a shack review back in October that was kind of ho-hum about the game (his review wasn't ho-hum, just his take on it).

Basically it's a Tycoon/Economy/Financier game. You try to get as rich as you can from anything ranging to a restaurant chain to a R&D hub or play entirely in real estate or stocks. You get some money, enough to basically start out with whatever business you want. It's pretty new since there's only like 130 players.

It's not entirely going yet though, since I had the patent to Rubber research, but nothing uses Rubber yet, so I turned all my researchers into restaurant workers and I'm actually turning a profit now.

since everyone is talking about game reviews, wtf is the deal with 1up? they gave assassins creed a 7 out of 10, and crysis an 8 out of 10. that would be ok if those two games didn't appear to be shaping up as potentially the best games of the year while getting rave reviews from every other site.

Marvel just launched they're digital comics site seems pretty bad ass, they have a bunch of freebies right now but it will eventually costs $9.99 a month or $60 a year. Servers are getting hammered right now though :-(

Networking problem

computer is connected to network printer.

If you go to control panel, printers, select printer and go to "properties" and print test page it prints immediately.

If you try to print a document however, it takes about four minutes for the document to even get into the queue. It's the same with Word, Wordperfect, notepad, etc.

as in you open notepad, type some stuff, click File, Print...as soon as you let go of the mouse it shows an hourglass for several minutes.

other computers on the network do not have this issue. She prints to her local USB printer no problem.

removed printer, re-installed, same with drivers, etc.

I've gotta gush: The Witcher is one of the best RPGs I've played in a long, long time. This is the exact type of game that PC gaming is all about: deep, engrossing, a downtrodden, believable world; quests that aren't so black & white.

I was asked by some barmaid to escort her to her grandmother's house at night. The outskirts of town were full of these hellhounds, so I agreed - for a price. I started goofing off and exploring on my own, and soon enough, I see a big red X next to my quest. I had failed...and the barmaid was dead. And I would never be able to complete that quest. It was cool: no respawning of the NPC later; no retries. I had assumed (like most RPGs) that if I failed, the quest would somehow "reset". Nope. First example of consequences in the game, and I hope there's a lot more.

Combat is really fun - yeah it's incredibly simplistic, but the animations and "feel" of kicking ass are really solid. You really do feel like you're a bad-ass monster hunter.

Let's discuss The Witcher in this thread!

OMG. The new Dirty Jobs is on right now (Mike goes to the trash collection facility and cleans out a garbage truck.) I'm about to lose my dinner watching it. We are filthy, filthy animals. :(

On an interesting side note, he said that San Fancisco recycles about 61% of its garbage, more than any other US city. That's awesome.

I have some left for fajitas from last night i was going to heat up for dinner but i noticed i don't have any tortillas... so I figured I would make my own, but the best recipe I've found calls for warm milk.. and i don't have any milk. :[

Do you think I could substitute Plain Yogurt for milk? I really don't want to go to the store :[ I actually do have some milk but the expiration is middle of october... it doesn't smell too bad...

Stupid shit I've heard the commentators/players say in Tiger Woods 2008.

First, the completely inaccurate commentary:

"This one is headed for the sand." - on a shot that I nailed about 2 feet from the pin.
"This putt will take huge break to the left." - on a putt that had no break at all
"He really didn't get much distance on this one." - on a 300 yard drive
"It really takes a lot of you-know-what to go for a shot like that." - on a routine pitch out of the sand

Silly generic commentary:

"Not over there!" - said by player after shanking an iron shot

And my all-time favorite:

"Please welcome to the tee... our next golfer." - Said as your player's intro at the beginning of every round. Seriously, EA, this is just lame.

It's like they aren't even trying anymore.

Shack feature request!

OK I know that I really SHOULD just always be logged in and reading comments on the Shack .. . i get that it's sacrilegious for me to NOT be doing so . . . that said; I am not always logged in, reading and posting.

Last night I missed out on dinner with a few Shackers at Genghis Grill; because I was not reading The Shack. I would like to avoid missing this type of event in the future, hence my request.

TL;DR Start here:

How about a Shack message notifier? Either an email or an IM or an SMS message to at least let you know you have a new SM is not the contents of the SM?

this new zune software update kind of sucks. granted i don't have a zune to appreciate the new integration features but:

- it took FOREVER to install
- can't use the old skin, or one styled like it (i liked shut up)
- i had to jump through hoops to get my existing marketplace membership to work with the new software
