DOOM Movie News
Various outlets have been covering the DOOM movie the past few days, as the movie is just a week away from showing up in theaters. Computer & Video Games has a set report, while Coming Soon talks to armorer Richard Hooper and military advisor Tom McAdam as well as visual effects supervisor John Farhat and creature effects supervisor John Rosengrant. The official movie site can be found here.
Q: Going back to the first person shooter sequence, how much of it is going to be done in camera, sort of Being John Malkovich, and how much is going to be computer effects or additions that are made later? Farhat: It's definitely a 50/50 mix. In fact I'd say the - hopefully you won't see a difference. There's sections of the First Person Shooter that are entirely computer generated. All sets and the creatures. There are others that are a mixture of prosthetic creatures and CG components to the creatures in real sets. There are CG creatures in real sets and real creatures in CG sets. And all of these are put together in a continuous take. One thing we realized after we had just finished this morning, shooting a lot of the elements for it, and we realized that we, we're making a four and a half minute effects shot. And I don't think that's ever been done. A good minute forty of it is entirely computer generated.

I know this movie will suck, just as sure as I know I will be going to see it in the theater. I'm not sure why, but I think it has something to do with morbid curiosity... kind of like watching a train wreck
