Google seems to release a lot of "Good" free software tho

You mean "beta" software, as the more recent stuff has been (gmail, now gtalk). MS has some stuff for free too, like the antispyware app, IE is technically free, the MSN toolbar, MSN messenger, etc.

Depends on how you view salary.

From people I know that have gone there, basically they pay a bit low, but you get lots of perks and there's always google stock.

Depends on what the stock does in the future, I didn't think my AOL stock at $117 was going to be worth anything either... (not that I'm implying those days will ever come back) Also, they have some interesting employee stock programs, it seems. Some of it is straight options at current market, some are different. I don't remember exactly, since it was my now ex-coworker describing it to me.

It was slightly different than ESPP, but hell if I can remember the details.

google gets away with some shit now cause theyre fairly young and they play the "hey we're hip and cool" card. when they get bigger people will hate them.

google net accelerator = pretty cool but i wouldn't use it
ms net accelerator = class action lawsuit

google desktop2 = hey that sidebar is pretty neat
ms vista sidebar = omg thank god they took that piece of shit out!

I have a hard time understanding how ads can pay for their equipment, bandwidth, employees..I mean they're a huge company now.

Advertising, selling their search appliances to companies. There are probably other things they do to make money that I'm unaware of, but that's off the top of my head.
