Mobile technology is more powerful now than ever before, and one of the easiest ways to see its strength in action is to load up a modern mobile game. No longer confined to simple puzzle or card games, mobile technology these days can run the sort of experiences that people were enjoying on their home computers not very long ago. A perfect example of this is developer Studio Wildcard's title ARK: Survival Evolved, a game that made its technical release just in August of last year that we've just heard will be landing on iOS and Android devices later this year.

For those who haven't yet played it, ARK: Survival Evolved is an open-world action game where players are tasked with surviving in a world overrun with prehistoric beasts. Set across a massive 19 square mile environment, players have to make the most out of what they can in order to defend against and eventually even tame massive dinosaurs. The game was made available in Steam Early access back in June of 2015, garnering a strong player base that continued to expand until its proper release last year.

Now that players have had time to enjoy the game as it was, the development team at Studio Wildcard have teamed up with mobile developer War Drum Studios to bring ARK: Survival Evolved to mobile devices. From what we've heard about the game so far, we know it will be a free-to-play title that retains online multiplayer elements; beyond that, it will also include a massive island environment and over 80 different creatures to fight, tame, and train.

There's still no official word on when ARK: Survival Evolved mobile is set to release, but the development crew are are aiming for a formal launch sometime this Spring. With that said, there's a Closed Beta test for iOS devices active starting today, and players who want to jump in on the action can head over to the official ARK website and sign up for an e-mail newsletter for a chance to participate in the current ARK: Survival Evolved mobile beta.
