Sleeping Dogs 'Year of the Snake' DLC leaked

Sleeping Dogs 'Year of the Snake' DLC leaked

Sleeping Dogs appears to be getting another round of downloadable content, themed after the upcoming Chinese New Year. A brief glimpse of footage and Trophy information outs it as "Year of the Snake," which just so happens to actually fall on February 10. If we had to place bets, we'd say the DLC will hit sometime around then.

Two ways LittleBigPlanet Karting improves on ModNation Racers

Two ways LittleBigPlanet Karting improves on ModNation Racers

LittleBigPlanet Karting comes out tomorrow--although you probably wouldn't know it based on Sony's anemic marketing for it. Some have written it off as ModNation Racers with a LittleBigPlanet skin. And while that isn't entirely inaccurate, I'd like to point out two notable enhancements made to Karting.

First are the load times. Perhaps the greatest flaw of United Front's original play, create, share racer were the minute-long loads that preceded every race. Spending 20 percent of your play time looking at a load screen is not entertainment--and thankfully, that's been thoroughly rectified in LBPK. The developer had to rewrite the engine from scratch, and the end result is as clear as night and day.

Sleeping Dogs 'Nightmare at North Point' DLC features zombies, of course

Sleeping Dogs 'Nightmare at North Point' DLC features zombies, of course

Like Red Dead Redemption, Sleeping Dogs is turning its open world action game into a zombie kill fest. The upcoming "Nightmare at North Point" DLC will be available on Halloween, and yes, you will have to fight the undead.

These aren't just any zombies, however. You'll have to go against the evil Smiley Cat, the reincarnated spirit of Big Scar Wu--who had been stabbed 42 times before being thrown into the grinder at the Smiley Cat cat food plant. He's risen from Hell and is vowing revenge against the Hong Kong criminal empire.

Sleeping Dogs holds fan poll for next DLC

Sleeping Dogs holds fan poll for next DLC

Where does one go after Hong Kong horror? It seems Sleeping Dogs developer United Front and publisher Square Enix can't make up their minds, so they're leaving the decision up to you. A poll lets you pick between a grounded, realistic option, and one that's a little more fantastical.

Sleeping Dogs 'Nightmare at Northpoint' DLC coming Halloween

Sleeping Dogs 'Nightmare at Northpoint' DLC coming Halloween

Looking solely at Wei Shen's finishing moves in Sleeping Dogs, you'd think it was a horror game. (Oh, the meat grinders!) The game's first campaign-expanding DLC will make it that much closer to an outright horror game--just in time for Halloween. "Nightmare at Northpoint" will be available on October 30, perfect for preparing for the scariest day of the year.

Sleeping Dogs review: new tricks

Sleeping Dogs review: new tricks

The open world genre is a difficult beast to tackle. Not only do you have to build an entire city, but you need to have enough play mechanics to make exploring the city worthwhile. Driving, fighting, and an assortment of mini-games--these are the things we've come to expect the genre. United Front Games delivers with Sleeping Dogs, its first foray into the genre. And while it doesn't offer the polish of a Grand Theft Auto game, there are plenty of clever ideas that make a visit to this virtual Hong Kong worthwhile.

At its core, Sleeping Dogs is just another "GTA clone." You'll run around the city, accepting oddjobs from a variety of characters, hijacking vehicles whenever necessary--only this time, you drive on the left side of the road. Unlike Rockstar's seminal series, however, you're technically a good guy. As Wei Shen, you must go deep undercover, infiltrating Hong Kong's triads and destroy them from within. But while you're technically an officer of the law, you'll be able to dish out a whole lot of mayhem upon the virtual populace.

Sleeping Dogs PC demo released; Square Enix 'incredibly supportive' of platform

The PC edition of Sleeping Dogs is, so They say, a fine piece of work--no quick and sloppy port. This, developer United Front has said, is thanks to support and encouragement from publisher Square Enix. The PC demo was released yesterday, so you can see how it turned out for yourself.

Sleeping Dogs cast includes Will Yun Lee, Edison Chen

Sleeping Dogs is a love letter to Hong Kong cinema. And to help "capture the tone" of its inspirations, Square Enix has hired quite an all-star cast to voice the game. Will Yun Lee (Die Another Day) will play the main character, Wei Shen. He'll be accompanied by a supporting cast that includes Edison Chen (Infernal Affairs), Emma Stone (The Amazing Spider-Man), Lucy Liu (Kill Bill), and Kelly Hu (X2).
