Juggling two jobs can be difficult for anyone, but Captain Edward Kenway seems to take the responsibilities of both pirate and Assassin in his stride. Ubisoft today dropped a "gameplay reveal" trailer for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, showing the kind of salty shenanigans players can expect from its latest open-world murder simulator.

It's fair to say that the last couple years have brought with it a wave of Assassin's Creed fatigue. Assassin's Creed 2 was well-received back in 2009; but the formula has felt a little more tired with each passing year. Even a shift to the American Revolution hasn't been enough for the series to shake that faint sense of exhaustion.
So for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag--the fourth since 2009--Ubisoft is appealing to the very soul of the internet, and making their latest assassin a pirate. Not only that, he'll be running with a formidable cast of real-life buccaneers, including the likes of Edward "Blackbeard" Teach, Charles Vane, and Anne Bonny. It's not quite Pirates of the Caribbean, but it should be enough to tap into the same fascination that made Johnny Depp's star vehicle into a megabucks franchise.

"The definition of insanity," Ubisoft made a point of having Far Cry 3 antagonist Vaas declare in trailers, "is doing the exact same fucking thing over and over again, expecting sh-t to change." If you like to get a little crazy, though, Ubi is working on an option to reset all outposts, letting you retake them and retake them to your heart's content. A new, harder 'Master' difficulty level is coming too, along with new multiplayer and map-making features.

Adding online co-op in paid DLC for a $10 downloadable game over two years after it launched is a curious move, but who can grumble when we'll get to beat up baddies with our chums in the charming Scott Pilgrim vs. The World? The multiplayer DLC is now slated to launch next week, on Xbox 360 at least, priced at $2 (160 MS Points).

Given Far Cry 2's polarizing reception, few could have expected late-arriving Far Cry 3 to be as astoundingly fun as it turned out to be.
Whereas most single-player first-person-shooters are tightly-scripted, linear crawls from A to B, Far Cry 3 gives players the run of two massive islands that can be explored and conquered as the player sees fit. Sure, shooting seedy human traffickers is mighty fun, but there's so much more you can do. One of Far Cry 3's most compelling sub-systems gives players the opportunity to hunt specific prey, the skins of which allow the crafting of bigger pouches, holsters, and the like.

Far Cry 3's single-player campaign is one of the best shooter experiences of the year. But can multiplayer reach the same watermark set by the campaign?
The various multiplayer modes Far Cry 3 offers are relatively enjoyable in their own rights, however they forsake much of what made the single-player campaign so compelling. The freedom afforded by the campaign's myriad of systems like hunting, exploration, and combat-based progression, are sacrificed when jumping online.

Far Cry 3's epic tale of survival begins in earnest next week, and while the new "launch" trailer certainly won't make the wait any easier, it does give a comprehensive breakdown of many of the games features, mission-types, and multiplayer modes.

With the December 4 release of Far Cry 3 just around the corner, Ubisoft is keeping the media flowing like a croc-infested jungle river. Today's bit of video highlights the game's co-op campaign, which allows up to four players to participate, and takes place six months prior to the events in the single-player story.
