If you commute on public transport but fancy recreating the pure murderous rage inspired by driving to work, you're in luck, as Stainless Games today launched the iOS edition of its vintage bloody racer Carmageddon. As Stainless promised during its Kickstarter campaign for Carmageddon: Reincarnation, the pocket edition is free for the first 24 hours.

Love it, loathe it, kind of like it, think it's a bit naff, or have no real opinion, you must admire that Magic: The Gathering has been around for 19 years now but still manages to stay fresh with new expansions and an ever-changing metagame. With the cardboard incarnation's 'Return to Ravinca' expansion block launching in October, the digital version Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 has received a small expansion of its own in DLC which "sets the tone" for the set.

Carmageddon made quite the splash when it debuted in 1997. The hyper-violent driving game had you running over bodies at high-speeds, and undoubtedly corrupted our nation's youth. The game's original developer, Stainless Games, wants to revive the long-dormant property with Carmageddon: Reincarnation.
Although already "announced," the developer is now turning to Kickstarter to raise crowdsourced funds for the game. "Raising the funds through Kickstarter will mean that we keep complete control of the project and can make the game we know everyone wants to play – with no EVIL corporate investor or publisher telling us that we can't run over old ladies or set fire to cows," Stainless Games CEO Patrick Buckland said in a press release.

Stainless's adaptation of Magic: The Gathering might not offer the complete tabletop experience, but it certainly helps stave off cravings for expensive cardboard. The series will return this summer with Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013, which is itself doing a little platformwalking to appear on iPad for the first time, as well as PC, Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.

Carmageddon series creator Stainless Games announced today that it has reacquired the rights to the bloody combat-racer series. The best way to celebrate this is, of course, to make a new entry, which is just what Stainless is doing with Carmageddon: Reincarnation.
"Carmageddon: Reincarnation will feature the same black humour and comic violence that made the original game such a success." said Stainless co-founder Neil Barnden in the announcement. "All the laughs, the crazy power-ups, and extreme destruction will return. We will make sure the existing fans get what they want and expect from a Carmageddon game, and a new generation discovers the delights of sliding into a Cunning Stunt." Read more »
