A new collection of entertainment apps is scheduled to hit PS Vita when the PlayStation Store updates later today. First up is Crunchyroll, a streaming service that offers anime and Asian dramas. Next is NHL GameCenter LIVE, a subscription service that streams live out-of-market games. Finally, Qello gives access to HD concerts and music documentaries.

Sony would like you to be aware that the PlayStation 4 is far more than a video game console: it's a "computer entertainment system." A grand eleven third-party streaming video services will be available when the PS4 launches on November 15, Sony confirmed today, showing everything from anime to hockey.

Hulu Plus launches on Wii with free trial

Somewhat later than planned, premium streaming video thing Hulu Plus is now available on the Wii. The app's on the Wii Shop Channel for those who subscribe to the $7.99 monthly plan, but if you're not a member, you can give it a go for free.

For the next month, if you download Hulu Plus on Wii and don't already have an account, you'll get a two-week free trial. Try it out. See how it fits. Show it off to your friends and loved ones.

Hulu Plus coming to Nintendo Wii & 3DS

Hulu Plus will be available on both the Nintendo Wii and 3DS systems later this year. The subscription service, currently available on PS3 and Xbox 360, will allow Nintendo fans to stream many television shows, including the current seasons of popular series from ABC, FOX, NBC, and more. The Plus service currently runs for $7.99 a month, with limited advertising.

In addition to the Hulu announcement, Nintendo detailed the upcoming 3DS system update, which will add the ability to record 3D video.

Hulu Plus offers free week for PSN downtime

Hulu is offering a free week of Hulu Plus for those inconvenienced by the PlayStation Network's downtime. Platform Nation reports that an e-mail is circulating to Hulu Plus members, giving a one-week credit ($2) due to the PSN issues. It isn't clear if Hulu is offering this to all Hulu Plus subscribers, or only the ones who have logged on from a PlayStation 3.

The e-mail also confirms that no Hulu Plus account information was compromised by the PSN data theft, so at least there's that. Read more »

An Xbox Live Arcade release of the splendid Torchlight and the opportunity to hold eerie chat shows with your friends Live Avatars via Kinect are amongst the goodies revealed yesterday by Microsoft at the ongoing 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show.

Torchlight will arrive as part of Microsoft's 'House Party' event on Xbox Live Arcade, which will see five big releases over five weeks. The others will be Ubisoft's revamped Beyond Good & Evil HD, Contra prequel Hard Corps: Uprising, Microsoft's Full House Poker and PopCap's Bejeweled Blitz Live. Next week, Hulu Plus will become available on the PlayStation 3 to all console owners with a subscription to the streaming video service, Sony has revealed on its PlayStation.Blog.

Hulu: PlayStation Plus Only Required During Hulu Plus Preview Period

Hulu Plus, the paid service from the online television service, will only require a PlayStation Plus subscription during the service's preview period. After that, Hulu Plus will be available to all PlayStation Network members with a Hulu Plus account, contrary to a rumor that PlayStation Plus would be needed.

The clarification comes from a statement issued to Joystiq: "With the launch of Hulu Plus there have been many rumors started and we are trying our best to remedy the situation. Specifically to your question, the Playstation Plus service is only a requirement during the preview period." Read more »

Streaming video service Hulu's new console-supporting 'Hulu Plus' subscription service will require PlayStation 3 owners to also subscribe to Sony's own PlayStation Plus scheme, according to a technologizer report spotted by Kotaku.

Hulu Launches Paid Service; Support for PS3 and Xbox 360 Forthcoming

Hulu has launched a premium service offering HD streaming for many shows from co-owning television networks ABC, FOX, and NBC as well as many other providers. The service, Hulu Plus, will run $9.99 a month and boasts access to current seasons of popular shows as well as a large back catalog of older shows.

The primary draw here is likely the ability to access Hulu content on devices such as the iPhone (3GS, iPhone4), iPad, iPod Touch (3rd Generation), and Samsung Internet TV's and Blu-Ray Players. Future support is promised for Internet-enabled Sony and Vizio TV's and Blu-Ray players, as well as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. For the consoles, PS3 support is coming in July, while Xbox 360 owners will have to wait until "early 2011" and it will require an Xbox Live Gold subscription. Read more »

The Xbox 360's rumored-but-still-unconfirmed addition of Hulu video streaming may be joined by a similar offering on the PlayStation 3, according to Bloomberg Businessweek.

The video streaming service would require a subscription fee, Bloomberg Businessweek explained, citing "people with knowledge of the talks." The Los Angeles Times previously pegged that fee at $9.95 per month. Read more »
