Call of Duty XP event not returning this year

Call of Duty XP event not returning this year

Call of Duty XP seemed like it was destined to be an annual event. It celebrated a best-selling franchise that's released on an annual basis, and it did pretty well for itself with sold out tickets. But even with a new game on the horizon that seems to be catching some fresher buzz than recent years, Activision has opted not to have another event this year.

Activision: Call of Duty XP was second most viewed Livestream event

According to Activision, the recent Call of Duty XP event, held this past Labor Day weekend in Los Angeles, was a smashing success on all fronts. In particular, the publisher claims that enough people watched the proceedings online to make it the second most watched event via Livestream in history. At the event, Activision unveiled a premium version of the Call of Duty Elite social service (running $49.99 per year), and attendees got to get their hands on some Modern Warfare 3.

Modern Warfare 3 interview with Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling

Modern Warfare 3 interview with Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling

At Call of Duty XP this past weekend, Shacknews discussed some of the changes and reaction--both positive and negative--to the latest entry in the best-selling Call of Duty series with Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling.

Bowling talked about what it was like working with Sledgehammer Games, brought in to assist in the game's development. He also talked up Elite, Call of Duty's premium subscription service. Finally, he called MW3 a "payoff," whilst avoiding calling it an end to a Modern Warfare "trilogy," of sorts.

Modern Warfare 3 'Survival Mode' preview

Modern Warfare 3 'Survival Mode' preview

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games of the year. With over 23 million units sold in its last iteration, it continues to cement its position as the top of the crop for modern shooters.

At the first annual Call of Duty XP event in Los Angeles, Shacknews grabbed a seat with an Activision representative to play the game's new Survival mode. Essentially a take on the increasingly popular "Horde" mode from Gears of War 2, Survival pits two players against waves of increasingly difficult enemies across all of the game's 16 multiplayer maps.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 ditches kill streaks, adds 'Strike Packages'

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 ditches kill streaks, adds 'Strike Packages'

Proving once again that--despite arguments to the contrary--the Call of Duty series isn't afraid of evolving on ideas, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer mode will undergo some serious changes.

The major shift is Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games' decision to ditch kill streaks in favor of a new system that rewards players based on points for everything based on kills, assists, completing objectives, and more. Additionally, streaks are now separated into three groups that are bundled based on play type: Assault, Support, and Specialist.

Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer trailer debuts

Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer trailer debuts

Call of Duty XP begins today, which means that we're likely to get an overwhelming deluge of Modern Warfare 3 stories. The multiplayer mode is being fully revealed this weekend, but before the festivities start, it appears someone's managed to put the trailer up on YouTube. The nearly four-minute trailer shows off everything we've come to expect from a COD game: over-the-top action and tons of fast-paced kills. This time, though, it's in locales we can recognize.

Call of Duty XP finally sold out

Call of Duty XP finally sold out

Call of Duty may be a seasoned veteran in the world of military first-person shooters. But, it is a total newbie to the world of video game themed conventions. Call of Duty XP is the first expo for Activision's popular shooter, and the festivities begin tomorrow. Wouldn't it be unfortunate if tickets for the event were still available at launch--especially given the rampant enthusiasm over the company's other live event, BlizzCon?

Call of Duty XP video walkthrough

Activision's upcoming Call of Duty XP will, apparently, be "insane." At least, that's what Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling repeatedly says in a behind-the-scenes video for the upcoming expo, set to begin in three days. The event will host a $1 million tournament, and will debut the first details of Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer offerings. In addition, attendees will be able to walk through a fully reconstructed Burger Town, as well as The Pit.
