New Wii Sports Resort Bundle Packs Two MotionPlus

Sep 25, 2009 5:30pm CST tags: Wii Sports Resort
Nintendo has announced a new limited edition bundle of Wii Sports Resort, which will pack the game and two of the MotionPlus controller add-ons it requires for $59.99.
Released earlier this year, the regular $49.99 version of the mini-game compilation includes just one MotionPlus. The game requires each player to have the precision-enhancing peripheral, which sells individually for $19.99, plugged into their Wii Remote.

The bundle "instantly gets multiple members of the household engaged in playing as soon as the package is opened," said Nintendo VP Cammy Dunway. It hits North American retailers on October 12, and will be available "while supplies last."

Nintendo has announced that over 500,000 units of Wii Sports Resort have been sold between its July 26 debut and August 5, a period of just 11 days.
That equates to roughly 1.5 copies of the game sold per second, according to Nintendo, which has clearly done its Brain Age math tests.

Nintendo of America VP of sales Cammie Dunaway was naturally pleased with the impressive numbers, calling the performance a "great start."

Nintendo has announced prices and release dates for its control-enhancing Wii MotionPlus accessory and the game Wii Sports Resort, which will take advantage of it.

The Wii MotionPlus, out June 8 costing $20 per accessory, attaches to a Wiimote to increases the sensitivity and accuracy of its motion sensors to an almost 1:1 scale.

Nintendo's first game to take advantage of the MotionPlus is Wii Sports Resort, which arrives on July 26 at $50, bundled with a single MotionPlus unit. Jet skiing, fencing and frisbee are among the minigames to enjoy and show off the enhanced precision.

Several third-party games have already announced support for MotionPlus, including Ubisoft's Red Steel 2 and EA's Grand Slam Tennis and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10.

Originally scheduled for a spring launch, Nintendo's sports sequel Wii Sports Resort will now hit North American retailers in July, according to Reuters.

In addition to new sporty minigames, Wii Sports Resort will also include the Wii MotionPlus accessory, the expansion device set to improve the motion controller's precision.

Punch-Out!! Wii Due by July, Kirby Wii Still Alive

Tucked away within Nintendo's recent financial documents was a tentative release schedule for the next year, revealing that the forthcoming Punch-Out!! Wii will hit North America and Europe within the first half of 2009.

The schedule also reaffirms that Wii Sports Resort will hit North America within the first half of the calendar year, with Treasure's shooter Sin & Punishment 2 still due this year.

On the Nintendo DS side of things, music-centric mini-game compilation Rhythm Heaven is due in North America by July, Mario & Luigi RPG 3 is coming by the year's end, and the latest Nintendo DS hardware, the Nintendo DSi, is expected between spring and summer--a target that coincides with rumors of its launch in early April.

The listing further reveals that Kirby Wii, previously expected last year, is now expected to hit Japan this year, though there are still no screenshots or details on the project.

The rest of the North American release dates match an earlier Nintendo schedule.

Wii MotionPlus, Wii Sports Resort Hands-on: Waggling Done Right?

A few months before the Wii's original launch, the limitations of the system and its motion-centric controls finally dawned on me: tethered to the controller's infrared sensor, there were distinct limits to how "aware" the system could be as to the Wii Remote's orientation. My dreams of one-to-one lightsaber combat were dashed.

When Nintendo revealed its plans for the Wii MotionPlus accessory yesterday morning— almost a full day before its E3 press conference proper—I was a little confused. If this was truly the improvement that it was billed to be, wouldn't it be better suited as the show-stopping announcement to close out the company's list of announcements?

The demonstration alongside Wii Sports Resort had piqued my interest, so I made my way to Nintendo's conference room this afternoon with weighty expectations. After a solid half-hour with the peripheral, I'm pleased—and somewhat surprised—to report that the device offers fidelity of motion unrivaled by any controller currently available on the market, so much so that I've got Jedi on the brain all over again... Wii Sports Resort Announced, Packed with Wii MotionPlus Accessory, Coming Spring 2009

Jul 15, 2008 11:47am CST tags: Wii Sports Resort, Nintendo, E3 2008
Nintendo has revealed Wii Sports Resort, a follow-up to the Wii's packed-in launch title.

The game will include the previously announced Wii MotionPlus accessory, which improves the precision and accuracy of the Wii Remote.

Nintendo's Cammie Dunaway demonstrated the game and accessory on stage at the company's E3 2008 press conference, where a number of the game's activities were shown off. Wii Sports Resort includes such activities as the fencing game Sword Play, the jet skiing game Power Cruising and a frisbee toss game known as Disc Dog.

The Wii MotionPlus accessory drastically improves the accuracy of the Wii Remote, and appears to bring 1:1 motion to the hardware rather than relying on the Wii Remote's infrared pointer.

Both the game and the Wii MotionPlus attachment are due for release in the spring of 2009.
