Activision Closes 'Web of Shadows' Dev Shaba

Oct 08, 2009 2:50pm CST tags: Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Shaba Games
Shaba Studios, the developer responsible for Spider-man: Web of Shadows, was shut down today by owner Activision according to several reports.

Though the doors of the San Francisco-based studio were closed, Kotaku put the number of terminated employees at just 30 out of the 61-strong team.

Founded in 1997, Shaba was largely responsible for ports of Tony Hawk games before shipping Web of Shadows in 2008.

Activision also recently cut 30 employees from its wholly-owned 7 Studios, a move it chalked up to "realignment" of its music genre workforce.

Activision announced that the legendary comic hero Spider-Man is set to return in Spider-Man: Web of Shadows (PC, PS2, PS3, X360, Wii, NDS, PSP), developed by Shaba Games and Treyarch.

According to IGN, Web of Shadows will see Spider-Man's return to a free-roaming, open-ended New York that combines web slinging with customizable powers, with an emphasis on vertical combat as well as traditional ground-based assaults on foes.
